1. Who this is about
This policy explains what information BBBRadar collects when you visit bbbradar.co.uk, order a device, or use one, and what we do with it. BBBRadar is a small independent operation. If you have any questions, email support@bbbradar.co.uk.
2. What we collect and why
| When | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Joining the "notify me" list | Email address | To email you when devices are back in stock or orders reopen — we delete your email address once that notification has been sent |
| Placing an order | Name, delivery address, email — collected and held by PayPal at checkout | To take payment and ship your device to you. PayPal is a separate data controller for this — see "Who we share it with" below |
| Processing your order | Your name, email and delivery address pass through our systems momentarily — used only to email you your order number and setup guide, and to generate a short reference (e.g. your initials and town, like "AM Abing") | To get your order number to you and give support a way to find your order later. Your name, email and delivery address are then discarded — we do not store them |
| After purchase | Order number, linked only to the short reference above (not your name, email or address) | To identify your order if you contact support |
| Setting up your device | Your device's MAC address, order number, and an activation token | To confirm the device belongs to a genuine order and let it fetch aircraft data |
| Using your device | Aircraft ICAO24 identifiers your device looks up, and basic usage stats (last-seen time, request count) against your device's MAC address | To return aircraft type/registration information to your display and keep the service running smoothly |
| Contacting support | Whatever you tell us — usually your order number and a description of the issue | To help you |
3. What we don't collect
We don't require an account, a password, or an app to use BBBRadar. We don't use cookies, analytics scripts or ad trackers on this website. We don't ask for or store your card details — payment is handled entirely by PayPal, and we never see your full card number.
We do not store your name, email address or delivery address in our own database. They pass through our systems only for as long as it takes to email you your order number and generate the short reference mentioned above, then they're discarded — the only record that's kept long-term is your order number and that short reference.
Your device's location (the coordinates you enter during setup) is stored only on the device itself. Your radar sends those coordinates to our server each time it asks which aircraft are nearby, but we do not log or retain them — nothing about where you live is written to disk, and the server is never told which radar is asking.
4. Who we share it with
- PayPal — processes your payment and delivery details as part of checkout. Their use of your data is governed by PayPal's own privacy policy.
- Royal Mail — receives your delivery address to dispatch your order.
- Airplanes.Live — third-party aviation data service. Our server asks them for aircraft across the whole country at once and then works out which ones are near you, so they receive nothing at all about you or where your radar is.
- adsb.lol — third-party aviation data service, still used by radars that have not yet taken the latest update. Those radars ask them for aircraft positions directly. We send them aircraft identifiers (ICAO24 codes), never your personal details.
- adsbdb — third-party lookup service used to identify an aircraft's type and registration. We send them aircraft identifiers (ICAO24 codes), never your personal details.
We don't sell your information to anyone, and we don't share it with third parties for marketing.
5. How long we keep it
We keep order and device records (order number, the short reference described in section 2, activation status) for as long as needed to support your device and meet our accounting and legal obligations, and notify-list emails until we've sent you that notification, at which point we delete them (or sooner, if you ask us to). Your name, email address and delivery address from an order are not kept long-term at all — see section 3. If you'd like anything deleted sooner, email us and we'll do it, subject to any records we're legally required to keep (e.g. sales records for tax purposes).
6. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to:
- tell you what information we hold about you;
- correct anything that's inaccurate;
- delete your information, subject to the exception in section 5;
- stop using it for a particular purpose (for example, remove you from the notify list).
Email support@bbbradar.co.uk to make any of these requests. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
7. Security
We take reasonable steps to keep the information we hold secure, including restricting access to our order and device database. No online service can be guaranteed 100% secure, but we don't store any payment details ourselves, which limits what there is to protect.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add new features or data sources. The version on this page is always the current one.
