On 24 September 2026 easyJet announced 18 new routes from the UK for summer 2027. They start between late March and early July 2027 and come from ten UK airports, from Aberdeen in the north to Bristol and London Southend in the south.

Most new-route announcements are a list of familiar sunshine destinations from new departure points. This one has a couple of genuine firsts in it.

Edinburgh to Tivat

The headline route is Edinburgh to Tivat in Montenegro. easyJet says it is the first airline to offer a route between the two, starting on 29 March 2027 with two flights a week, on Mondays and Thursdays. Birmingham to Tivat follows from 3 May, also twice a week.

Tivat sits on the Bay of Kotor, the long, mountain-walled inlet on Montenegro's Adriatic coast. The medieval walled town of Kotor is at the far end of the same bay. From Edinburgh, it has until now meant at least one change of plane.

Girona, new for easyJet

The second first is Girona in Catalonia. It is a brand new destination for easyJet from the UK, although other airlines already fly there from Britain. Flights start from Liverpool on 28 March, twice a week, and from London Gatwick on 3 June, three times a week. easyJet says it will be the only airline flying Liverpool to Girona.

Six of the eighteen are from Scotland: four from Edinburgh and two from Aberdeen. Six go to Spain. easyJet says that on ten of them it will be the only airline on the route.

What it means overhead

Most of these will be flown once or twice a week, so none of them will change the look of the sky much on their own. But easyJet's A320-family jets are among the most common aircraft over the UK, and on the radar on my desk they are easy to spot: the callsign always starts EZY.

On a session at Prestwick in early September the screen caught one, an Airbus A319, G-EZFT, flying as EZY149Y at 14,675 feet. It is a small reminder of what a callsign does not tell you. From the label alone you know the airline and the aircraft, but not whether it is heading for Alicante or, from next spring, somewhere entirely new.
